TORONTO - Federal, provincial and territorial agriculture ministers discussed risk management programs, livestock insurance and increased access to international markets at a meeting in Toronto today.
Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said there was a frank assessment of how risk management programs were working but he was not willing to commit to any specifics.
Ritz did take a swipe at Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, who was in Guelph, Ont., to talk about a national food policy.
Ritz said Ignatieff had merely come up with a laundry list of the same things that had been discussed for the last 15 years.
The agriculture ministers plan to meet again this summer in Saskatchewan.
